Biography
My work explores the darker, often unseen aspects of human experience, focusing on trauma, dissociation, suicide and identity. Working predominantly in pencil, I use intimate and unsettling imagery to communicate experiences that can be difficult to articulate through words.
Central to my practice is the character Bag Head, who acts as a narrator and representation of shifting self states. The hessian sack that conceals the character’s face began as a symbol of blindness to reality, but has evolved to represent confusion, loss of identity and entrapment. Fairy lights, suspended from Bag Head’s neck, originated as a representation of suicide and have since developed into a recurring visual language, reflecting different outward expressions of internal states.
My work is deeply personal, using symbolism and recurring imagery to explore the relationship between inner experience and outward identity. I aim to create work that is thought provoking, emotionally confronting and open to individual interpretation.
